A4 Desktop Printers / MFPs

Small, affordable, but not suited for demanding business use.

A4 Desktop Printer

If you’re looking for a compact, reliable printer that fits on a desk or bench, desktop printers and multifunction printers (MFPs) are where most businesses start.

These models come in A4 print-only and multifunction (print/copy/scan) versions. But not all desktop printers are built the same. Retail-grade printers (e.g. those found at retailers like Officeworks), are better suited to home use, while others are designed for more regular business use with better reliability and somewhat lower running costs.

Who They’re For

A4 desktop multifunction printers (MFPs) are compact, affordable devices often found in homes or very small offices. While some models are marketed to small businesses, most are not designed for regular business use. They typically suit:

  • Solo operators or home offices with very light print volumes

  • Professionals who need occasional scanning or A4-only printing

  • Budget-conscious buyers upgrading from a basic consumer printer

Why They’re Usually Not Business-Grade

It’s important to understand the difference between price and suitability.

Many users come to us expecting to get a reliable business printer for under $1,000, but at that level, you’re often buying a device that’s built for low-volume home-office use, not shared business environments.

Even higher-end A4 MFPs, while sometimes marketed for “business use”, usually fall short when it comes to:

  • Toner efficiency and long-term cost per page

  • Device lifespan and serviceability

  • Network support, user authentication, and print security

  • Paper handling and larger tray capacity

Typical Price Range

  • Consumer A4 MFPs: $300–$1000 (retail-grade, not suitable for regular business use)

  • Business-grade A4 MFPs: $1,500–$2,500

  • Lease from: ~$40/month (for commercial models only)

Our Recommendation

If you’re printing more than a few pages a day, or need a shared device for a small team, we strongly recommend choosing a business-grade A3 desktop or freestanding A3 model, even if you rarely print on A3.

These devices are simply more robust, built for regular business use, last longer, and offer far better long-term value through lower running costs and access to service and support.

⚠️ We Don’t Provide Quotes for Low-End A4 Devices

To avoid wasting your time, we do not provide supplier quotes for A4-only printers for home use, or those under ~$1,500. If that’s your budget, you may be better served by retailers like Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi, or similar.

However, if you’re looking for a compact business-grade device and your budget is in the ~$1,500–$2,500+ range, we can sometimes match you with a suitable supplier, depending on your location.
